Gourmet Popcorn
This recipe boasts as few as five ingredients.
All that is required is patience and perfect timing.
Follow the instructions as directed.
You will be rewarded with popcorn that retains its freshness and texture for the whole length of the movie.
The contrasting ingredients combine to provide a satisfying feeling to be shared in a group.
From the tool shed:
Brass, stainless steel, or other heavy metal pot with a see through, removable lid.
Thin pots, such as aluminum, conduct heat unevenly and will not work well with this recipe.
One stick organic butter
Popcorn kernels
Grated Parmesan cheese, 4 heaping tablespoons per cup of popcorn
Sea Salt
Hot Pepper Flakes (alternate: cayenne pepper)
Two oven mitts (or something to grab the cover without burning your hands or starting a fire.)
Serving bowl
And into the fire:
1. Place the pot on the largest of the ranges and set to the lowest flame setting.
2. Place one stick of organic butter in the center of the pot.
3. Pour one to two cups of popcorn kernels, depending on the amount of diners. Every cup serves up to three people, and the maximum is two cups.
4. Cover, and allow butter to melt slowly into layer of kernels.
5. Continue cooking kernels in boiling butter until they begin to pop.
6. Once popped corn reaches halfway up the pot and begins rising steadily rather than popping chaotically:
- Remove lid and generously sprinkle sea salt.
- Cover, shake, repeat two more times.
7. Allow contents to continue cooking on lowest flame setting.
8. Lift lid with oven mitt and sprinkle four heaping tablespoons of Parmesan cheese with opposite hand slowly onto mixture.
Be sure to replace lid between each tablespoon to reduce unnecessary risks.
9. Replace lid and allow to cook, shaking contents frequently (use the oven mitts).
10. When popping has stopped completely, turn heat off and allow to set with lid on.
11. Sprinkle two to three teaspoons of hot pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.
12. Shake gently and pour contents into a serving bowl.
Bon Appetit!
